No Coward Soul is Mine

~Emily Bronte

No coward soul is mine,
No trembler in the world’s storm-troubled sphere:
I see Heaven’s glories shine,
And faith shines equal, arming me from Fear.

O God within my breast,
Almighty, ever-present Deity!
Life – that in me hast rest,
As I – Undying Life- have power in Thee!

Vain are the thousand creeds
That move men’s hearts, unutterably vain;
Worthless as withered weeds
Or idlest froth amid the boundless main,

To waken doubt in one
Holding so fast by Thine infinity;
So surely anchored on
The steadfast rock of immortality.

With wide-embracing love
Thy Spirit animates eternal years,
Pervades and broods above,
Changes, sustains, dissolves, creates and rears

Though Earth and moon were gone,
And suns and universes ceased to be,
And Thou wert left alone,
Every Existence would exist in Thee.

There is not room for Death,
Nor atom that his might could render void:
Thou – Thou art Being and Breath,
And what Thou art may never be destroyed.

    You are so, so beautiful! So brave … thank you for beginning this blog, Annita. I love you … can’t wait to be with you … and trust that you will make sure you love us enough when we’re out there to not push yourself to overdue it! Plus, I’m not objectionable to pushing you around Seattle, my love! And I promise … no steep hills (unless Joe would be there to catch you!!!) See you soon!

      :::chuckle::: Your comment about steep hills a few weeks ago really made me laugh, as I was thnking someday a wheel chair may be necessary, and Seattle would evidently be a very adventurous trip with you! If the wheels ever do become a reality, I will be wearing the sexiest high heels (I’m just sayin…). I am glad you found this. I was going to email you soon to let you know in case you missed it on FB, and also because you have probably been CRAZY busy with the move. Love you! Can’t wait to see ya!

    Hi Anita,
    I came across your blog post because I LOVE Emily Brontë’s poetry. I recently posted this same poem to my blog too… I thought you might like to see it with some photos I took while traveling to Emily’s home town of Haworth in England.

    Keep up the great work!
